Nails the bridled nailtail wallaby...

Nails is a bridled nailtail wallaby that is currently in care with us... dropped by his mother in Idalia National Park and brought into charleville caar&r's.

Some facts about the bridled nailtail wallaby:

  • For 30 years the Bridled Nailtail Wallabies were believed to be extinct with the last know sighting in 1937. Then in 1973 a fencing contractor 're-discovered' a population on a property near the town of Dingo.

  • In 1994 a population was introduced to Idalia National Park (where Nails is from) the current population is approx. 100 Wallabies.

  • The Bridled Nailtail Wallaby is a small wallaby with males weighing 5-6kg and females 4-5kg, it is a light grey colour with a destinctive white line forming a "bridle" from the back of the neck to behind the fore limbs. They also have a 3-6mm nail-like spur at the tip of the tail.

Nails is currently living in an outdoor enclosure (soft release) when she is ready she will be re-released at Idalia National Park.

A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT SPUD!

Today we thought we would write a little about Spud a male Eastern Grey joey being cared for by chantelle.

Spud is now approx 3kg :) He has just started going to what Chantelle like to call playgroup lol. Where Spud goes during the morning to interact with other Macropods (Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wallaroos ect.) in an enclosed environment that simulates the wild.

Just for fun here is Spud at feeding time :)
